After lunch we headed for the hills, literally. Our drive to Pinhao was over the mountains. Sixty miles of almost a two-lane curvy and steep mountain road. Once on top we could see the Douro River below as we descended to its banks. Then another 20 miles slonfg the river to the sleepy town of Pinhao in the heart of the port wine growing district.
We parked the car and walked down to the docks where our private river cruise was awaiting us-a 28 foot Portuguese curry cabin modeled after the American Chris Craft woodies of 1962. Needless to say Bobbie was in boat captain Nevada!
The cruise was great-two hours up the river sipping port and viewing the terraced vineyards. After ward we headed down river to our hotel.
Our rooms had terraces overlooking the river-sweet!
