We left the sea coast and Kushadasi for our drive north through many mountainous valleys until reaching Perganom, site of the Temple to Zeus. The ruins were on top of a 4,000 mountain surrounded by modern city.
We toured the ruins of the temple, the amphitheater, and the hospital before having lunch in the town at the base of the mountain.
Our drive further north to Canakkale followed the coastline and mountain valleys of northwest Turkey. Our hotel is on a pine forested slope overlooking the Strait of Dardanelles. Hotel Tusan is a 4* stay with king beds and terraces overlooking the pool and the water beyond. Really pretty spot with a great dining room and extensive local menu.
