Animal Auction

Throughout the region we have seen several temporary animal auctions. Cows, goats, and sheep are brought to these markets where Muslims purchase the animal to be slaughtered and the meat then donated to a local poor family. This is an Islamic custom with roots in the Abraham and Isaac story from the bible. It also has roots in the Koran, Sudrah 2, where Mohammed asks all believers to live a charitable life. This event occurs three days prior to the national independence holiday on the 29th. Very interesting.
