Our Cairo security

Everything we have done has involved security. It's all been fairly covert and many of us were unaware of its extent.

The Egyptian government has provided us with an armed security agent for all of our excursions and activities. These fellows have all been extremely pleasant, impeccably dressed, and very low key. They have ridden in the bus with us and have been heavily armed!

In addition we have had a police escort. This has been in the form of a patrol car with at least three officers following our bus. It only took us two days to figure that one out!

Yesterday the tour company that we used for our 4X4 adventure did not file the proper paperwork and we were not escorted. When our regular agent showed up last night to take us to dinner there was quite a discussion between him and the hotel police. They were pretty upset that we had left the hotel unescorted earlier in the day.

Maged straightened it out and we got to see another layer of what the government is doing to support and protect their second largest industry. With tourism currently down 82% they can't afford any incidents.

What we learned today is that these security measures are ONLY for Americans. Hmmm?
