Saying goodbye to the land of my grandfather came with mixed feelings. While Spain was an instant love affair, Portugal became the girl you'd eventually marry. It took some time and a developed sence of appreciation to love her.
While the two big cities needed a coat of paint and a broom, the people and the atmosphere were charming. The whole country oozes with history.
The economic situation is evident at every turn. The highways were beautiful and the service and planning by our Portuguese agent were superb.
The food was strangely different from the ethnic variety I grew up with from my Portuguese roots. i was disappointed to not see a single bean dish on any menu. Guess it's the Mexican side of me craving frijoles!
The wines were awesome and we have all now developed a taste for a good ruby port!
We'll be back, only next time with more days to explore. We missed a lot this time around...or maybe not -:)
