Olympia

Breakfast on the terrace as followed by an extensive walking tour of the ancient Olympic site. Walking the grounds without a guide would have been futile. With Alexander's expertise we were able to truly appreciate and experience the story of the games and this unique sanctuary.

The Temple of Zeus was magnificent with columns larger than can be imagined. Walking through the entrance gate to the stadium was a great experience. You could here the roar of the 45,000 spectators!

We toured additional ttemples and fountains. We saw the Altar of Hera where today the Olympic flame is ignited for the modern Olympic Games.

If that wasn't enough we then went to the museum where we were shocked to discover the entire statuary of both the east and west pediments of Zeus 's temple- almost fully intact!
