A new scheduled strike of museum and archeological site workers caused us to alter our route. Instead of going north to the monasteries, we will do our itinerary in reverse to insure that we can see Delphi and Olympia.
Our first stop was at the Corinth Canal. Built in 1890 it was quite spectacular some 200 feet down to the water. The canal connects the Ionian and Aegean seas.
Next was a beautif drive through the Mycenae countryside of olive, grape, and citrus to the coastal city of Nafplio and near the site of ancient Mycenae where we enjoyed about an hour of wandering and some free time. Bobbie and I found a cafe next to a natural rushing stream. We simply followed the locals leaving Sunday mass. A couple of double expressos and we were ready to go again.
