Cairo

We arrived late evening to a quiet airport and even more quiet streets. Being a Friday (their Saturday to us) this was unusual. Of course you've seen the news.

Everything except for the few blocks around Tahir Square is quiet and calm and we are perfectly safe-in fact for the first time during our entire time in Egypt we do not have a security detail. Kids are playing in the street and the Ferris wheel at the amusement park down the street is turning.

We arrived at our hotel where we will spend two nights. We plan to wander the local area today on our own before getting together for dinner tonight. There's a Starbucks and a McDonalds down the way-we may succumb to our slight (barely) tinge of homesickness.

The mood among Egyptians is interesting. Half want to see their current president step down and the other half love him. Sound familiar?

Denise is on a private tour of the pyramids today to see what she missed due to her arrival delay two weeks ago. The rest of us will wing it. Who knows, maybe we'll make a sign or two and support our favorite side!

PS: Just kidding
