Bahariya-the town of Al Bwiti

Upon arrival we had lunch at a questionably appearing cafe which at first had us all a bit nervous. Ramon assured us we were okay and that the food was safe. Our meal was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised.

Afterward we visited the new Golden Mummy collection. A dozen mummies with golden death masks were on display-adults both men and women and a few children. These mummies were of wealthy town people and dated back to the 3rd century BC.

Next we visited the tombs themselves- only discovered in 1996 and open to the public just a few years back. We climbed down a spiral stairwell to each and then through a very small opening in the rock wall to discover exquisite wall paintings in their original condition. Only 3,000 plus years old and we were there! Photos to be posted later.

Not done yet...a visit to a small tomb with 4,000 year old carved plaster murals (awesome) was followed by a
our last visit today-the Temple of Alexander the Great. Yep, that one! Amazing!
